Help shape national policy from Cumbria
The CBI Cumbria Working Group brings together senior business leaders from across the region to shape national conversations on growth, competitiveness, and investment.
Meeting quarterly at venues across Cumbria, this in-person forum connects directors and senior leaders who want to influence policy, share intelligence, and strengthen the region’s voice in Westminster.
The CBI Cumbria Working Groups is chaired by David Beeby DL, and convened by Matt Bratton, Regional Director (North East and Cumbria), CBI – both members of the Cumbria Economic Growth Board.
Who can join
The group is open to both CBI members and non-members and free to attend. It’s for business leaders who want a direct line into the national debate and a network of peers who get things done.
Why get involved
As part of the Working Group, you’ll:
- Shape policy: Influence CBI campaigns on regulation, industrial strategy, and skills – nationally and regionally.
- Gain insight: Access cutting-edge analysis and briefings from CBI economists and policy experts.
- Build connections: Engage with senior peers, policymakers, and regional stakeholders.
Your insight helps set the agenda – ensuring the Cumbrian business voice is heard where it matters most.
What’s discussed
Each meeting focuses on a live economic or policy theme – from cost pressures and net zero, to skills, trade, and infrastructure.
Every quarter, a CBI economist presents the latest data, leading the State of Trade discussion and gathering member input to help forecast future performance.
All sessions operate under the Chatham House Rule, creating a trusted space for open, candid debate among business leaders.
Your time commitment
The group meets four times a year for around two hours, hosted in-person by local businesses across Cumbria.
What our members say
“Being part of the CBI Cumbria Working Group connects you to the national conversation on business, policy, and growth – but grounded in the realities of our regional economy. It’s the most effective way for local leaders to make their voice count.”
